The purpose of this conference was to assess the progress made in implementing the Global Plan 2021-2030 during its initial five-year period, to generate support for the new vision of safe and sustainable mobility. From 15th to 20th February 2025, global leaders united for safer roads worldwide. Ministers from numerous countries came together to address pressing challenges and solutions for safer roads, pivotal in shaping the future of global road safety.

Key Highlights from the 3rd World Youth Assembly
The 3rd World Youth Assembly for Road Safety kicked off with powerful speeches, insightful discussions, and the unveiling of the Global Youth Statement—a bold declaration urging action from young leaders in over 130 countries! Janani Ilamparithi from Parisar took part as a Youth delegate. Key moments from the two-day event included:
🌍 Dr. Etienne Krug (Director, Social Determinants of Health, WHO) and Lotte Brondum (Executive Director, Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety) welcomed 200+ young delegates from 70+ nations, inspiring them to advocate for safer streets.
🗣️ Engaging dialogues on a global scale highlighted how young people are spearheading change in their cities.
🔍 Interactive sessions linked road safety to broader challenges like climate action, public health, and gender equity, reinforcing priorities such as active mobility, safer urban planning, and sustainable transport.
🚀 The 2025 Global Youth Statement for Road Safety was officially launched—designed as both a roadmap for young advocates and a direct appeal to policymakers and government leaders worldwide.

At the ‘Grab the Mic’ sessions, passionate changemakers from Nepal 🇳🇵, India 🇮🇳, and Morocco 🇲🇦 showcased their impactful work in making streets safer in their communities.
While addressing the youth, Jean Todt (UN Special Envoy for Road Safety) emphasized that road safety is a public health crisis, stressing that we need urgent action—not just discussions! With the Global Youth Statement now launched and signed, youth voices are resonating louder than ever, calling for safer and more inclusive mobility across the globe.

Key Highlights from the 4th Global Ministerial Conference
In the lead-up to the 4th Global Ministerial Conference, road safety advocates from around the world came together to strategize and shape the discussions and commitments that nations would present. The Asia Partners Meet, hosted by the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety, brought together changemakers from Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Mongolia, Thailand, Bangladesh, and Nepal. The gathering provided a platform to exchange advocacy strategies, foster partnerships, and share impactful solutions that have improved road safety across the region. Road safety needs more proactively driven solutions that push for streets that are for people and not just vehicles!
At the ‘Road Safety Village’ organised by the Kingdom of Morocco, the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced the theme for the upcoming 8th UN Global Road Safety Week in the month of May as ‘safe walking and cycling’ for all! Following this, the #CommitToLife: Walk and Ride—organized by the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety, Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety, and Pikalabikes Marrakech—highlighted the urgent need for safe, accessible, and sustainable mobility, reinforcing the collective push for action!

🚦 On Day 1 of the Global Ministerial Conference on #RoadSafety, Sh. Ajay Tamta, Minister of State, MoRTH, joined the plenary on the future of #RoadSafety—linking it to climate, sustainable transport & emerging mobility trends.
🌍 On Day 2, at the high-level panel discussion on Road Safety Solutions in South Asia, dignitaries representing Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives and India spoke in length about the road safety challenges faced by them in their respective countries and the solutions that they have been adopting to overcome them. Representatives from Bhutan and Nepal touched upon the urgent need for modal shift and multi-modal transport systems, that reduce our dependency on motor-vehicles and embrace public transport and non-motorised transport systems in our communities.

🗣️ Youth delegates submitted the #GlobalYouthStatement2025 to the Minister, pushing for youth engagement in policy & action.
🔹A key conversation with Pankaj Aggarwal, Chief Engineer, MoRTH, brought out discussions on safe-by-design roads, infrastructure, role of enforcement bodies and state-level actions to be taken for road safety commitments.
We now look forward to the next steps taken by the Ministry for safer roads for all.
