Parisar has been actively engaging with different stakeholders over the last few years for creating awareness about air pollution, alongside policy advocacy for it with the PMC and other related authorities. Air pollution being a multi-sectoral issue, it seemed only logical for people working in various sectors like health, waste management, education, mobility, gender equality, and corporates to come together to work on it. Parisar initiated the formation of the “Pune Air Action Hub” to take up issues and actions with the aim to reduce air pollution in the city and to minimise the health impacts on citizens.

PMC sets up special squads for addressing waste burning in Pune

PMC has set up ward wise special squads to address waste burning and dumping in the city. Each of the 15 administrative wards has been assigned with sqauds, with 2-3 people in each squad, divided into 2-3 shifts per day. The squad duty changes every day, with different people being assigned on different days of the week. For citizens who want to lodge complaints regarding dumping and burning, they will have to find out the relevant squad members on any given day and call them. Once the location and the problem is described, the squad is expected to reach the location and investigate the case, find the perpetrators and penalise them.

Pledge to opt for eco-friendly cremation and leave behind a greener legacy: Green Farewell Campaign

When we think of death, one of our concerns is whether we leave our future generation well cared for. While we try to secure material resources, do we give a thought to their health as well as the environment they have to live in? The world is becoming increasingly polluted and climate change threatens our very survival. As we look towards building a brighter future for next generations, we must thoughtfully re-examine some of our old practices and fully understand their impacts on our society and planet. One practice ripe for change is the most common method of cremation – wood cremation.
