The project investigates state-led riverfront developments across India and their implications for urban landscapes, resource distribution, and socio-ecological transformations. We’re motivated to build a nationwide database to document these developments comprehensively so that others can easily have access to consolidated data.
The information in the database has been accumulated by uniting information from various sources like Government Websites, News Articles, Academic articles and reports. The first field visit in Delhi provided an insight into the actual conditions of riverfront projects in the area. It demonstrated how riverfront management functions through the loss of agricultural grounds and forced population relocation.
Farmers alongside the Yamuna lease land for agricultural practice, reported that they are losing their livelihood because of land acquisition for infrastructure projects. The second visit to the upcoming Yamuna Riverfront, near the Geeta Colony flyover, highlighted the ongoing construction phase, ornamental plantation, and displacement of informal settlers. Discussion with the affected community expressed their dissatisfaction about insufficient resettlement assistance.
Below are some snippets of 1st field visit to Delhi’s riverfront (bansera) and the nearby area (Maharani Bagh) where construction activities are ongoing.
Field Visit 2: These are snippets from the field visit of the upcoming riverfront near the geeta colony flyover, new delhi, where you can see the work is being done by the horticulture department and yet the riverfront is still in construction phase.
