Parisar participated in black spot inspection activity in Pune city

The Pune District Road Safety Committee conducted a comprehensive inspection of black spots within Pune city. A "black spot" is defined as a 500-meter stretch of road that has witnessed either five or more fatal vehicle crashes or ten or more severe injuries in the past three years.

In line with the directives from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), all state and union territory governments have been urged to prioritize measures for rectifying these black spots to mitigate road crash fatalities. In this regard, the Maharashtra State Government has identified 34 black spots within the Pune Municipal Corporation area and 19 black spots within the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area.

Members of the District Road Safety Committee dedicated two days to inspecting these black spots, aiming to gain insights into on-ground challenges and propose both short-term and long-term solutions. This analysis forms the foundation for the development of effective measures aimed at reducing accidents and saving lives. A comprehensive report will be compiled and subsequently submitted to the District Collector for further action and implementation.

Parisar has actively contributed to the examination of all 34 identified black spots in Pune, providing valuable technical insights and safety recommendations with the ultimate goal of enhancing road safety and reducing traffic-related fatalities.
During the black spot inspection activity, there was no segregated data of number of type of road user fatalities (pedestrians, cyclist, two wheeler fatalities), reasons for crashes and fatalities, time of crashes, etc. which was concern raised by Sandeep Gaikwad

The activity was attended by representatives from various key organizations, including the Pune Traffic Police, RTO (Regional Transport Office), NHAI (National Highways Authority of India), PWD (Public Works Department), and PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation).

Additionally, Sandeep Gaikwad from Parisar and a member from Bloomberg Initiatives were also present.
