Parisar's Sujit Patwardhan attended a 10-day international workshop organized by I-CE that brought together Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and city planners from various cities around the world. The workshop held in end April / early May 2009 helped CSOs from different countries share their experiences in promoting non-motorized transport in different cities and countries.
CSOs from different countries presented the strategies and approaches adopted by them, as well as the difficulties faced and lessons learnt. These sessions helped CSOs to learn from each other's experiences and will hopefully help them do their jobs better in their respective context.
Additionally, representatives from different city administrations - typically the same cities where the CSOs were working - also attended the workshop and presented their attempts at improving cycling in their cities and the problems they faced. This facilitated an interaction between city officials and CSOs and helped both gain a better understanding of each other's perspective at an international level. Mr. Latkar of the PMC also attended the sessions.
